Points.com
Inc. announced today that American Airlines has signed a formal
agreement to participate in the world’s first loyalty program currency
exchange, pointsxchange™, giving Points.com an important partnership
with the world’s leading customer loyalty program and its 40 million
members.
The agreement provides a framework for the 40 million members of
AADVANTAGE, American Airlines’ frequent flyer loyalty program, to
participate in pointsxchange. The relationship provides added value to
AADVANTAGE members by enabling them to consolidate their other loyalty
program currencies into AADVANTAGE miles or exchange their AADVANTAGE
miles for the currency of other loyalty programs. The agreement also
provides for joint marketing and promotions to the AADVANTAGE membership
base.
"Having American Airlines participate in pointsxchange marks the
beginning of a very rewarding relationship for both of us," said Rob
MacLean, President of Points.com. "As the industry leaders, we’re
excited American will be working with Points.com to continue to enhance
the AADVANTAGE program for its 40 million members. Together with the
partners we have signed to date and the others we are working through
final commercial documentation with, we now have a total potential
audience of over 85 million loyalty program member accounts."
"We are always looking for ways to increase the value of the AADVANTAGE
program for our members and pointsxchange is an innovative way to
provide added value," said Bruce Chemel, President of AADVANTAGE
Marketing Programs. "By teaming with the world’s first loyalty program
currency exchange we are giving AADVANTAGE members more ways to
accumulate and redeem miles."
Points.com selected IBM Canada Ltd. to help implement their proprietary
asset management offering. Points.com and IBM collaborated on the
software application behind the solution.
