Marriott
International (NYSE:MAR) has been named to manage two new properties in
the Middle East. They are: the 168-room Renaissance Golden View Hotel,
Sharm el Sheikh on the Red Sea in Egypt and the 300-room Aqaba Marriott
Hotel and Resort on the Gulf of Aqaba in Jordan. The Renaissance hotel
will open later this year and will be the seventh property in the
company’s lodging portfolio in Egypt; the Aqaba resort will open in 2004
and will be the fourth hotel in the company’s portfolio in Jordan.
In addition to the Renaissance Golden View Hotel, Sharm el Sheikh, the
property will feature Marriott’s Sharm Beach Villas, a 104, one- and
two-bedroom villas Vacation Ownership resort located on Om el-Seid Hill.
The villas will be sold, developed and operated by Marriott Vacation
Club International. The hotel will be the second property in Egypt to
carry the Renaissance brand flag.

The Renaissance Golden View Hotel, Sharm el Sheikh is owned by Kiroseiz
for Touristic Investment Co., S.A.E. and will be located on a lushly
landscaped site approximately six miles south of the Marriott Sharm el
Sheikh Resort at Na’ama Bay. The entire complex boasts a 550 square
meter seafront, broken by a number of small secluded beaches and bays.
Most of the hotel rooms within the low-rise development will have views
of the Red Sea. Raw Nosrani International Airport, Na’ama Bay and the
village of Sharm el Sheikh will be within a short driving distance away.
For dining and entertainment, the Renaissance Golden View Hotel, Sharm
el Sheikh will have several food and beverage outlets, including three
restaurants, a pool grill, a lobby lounge and a pub.
Recreational amenities will include a health club and an outdoor
swimming pool. Other amenities will include a business center, 24-hour
room service, in-room mini-bar, laundry/valet service, airline/car
rental/tour desk, a children’s play area, a water sports/dive center,
retail shopping and a long for Marriott Vacation Ownership International
villa owners.
For conferences and social events, the Renaissance Golden View Hotel,
Sharm el Sheikh will offer 5,130 square feet of space including a 3,000
square-foot banquet room that will be divisible into two sections and
two individual meeting rooms offering 1,830 square feet of space.
The Marriott International lodging portfolio in Egypt is currently
represented by the 171-room Renaissance Alexandria Hotel, the 1,250-room
Cairo Marriott Hotel, the 270-room Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort and
the 216-room Sharm el Sheikh Marriott Resort. Opening later this year in
Egypt is the 425-room JW Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa Mirage City
Cairo and the 310-room Taba Marriott Beach Resort on the Red Sea on the
Red Sea on the South Sinai peninsula.
The Aquaba Marriott Hotel and Resort is owned by Business Tourism
Company L.L.C. It will be located on the north beach of the Gulf of
Aqaba and will offer direct frontage to its own beach. Aqaba’s airport
is situated north of the town. Amman, the capital of Jordan, is a
45-minute flight away.
For dining and entertainment, the Aqaba Marriott Hotel and Resort will
have several food and beverage outlets. These will include a casual and
a specialty restaurant which will offer seasonal outdoor terrace seating
as well as a lobby bar, a themed bar and a pool bar.
Recreational amenities will include a health club, a swimming pool, two
tennis courts, access to water sports and a children’s play area. Other
amenities will include 24-hour room service, a business center, in-room
mini-bar, a gift shop and retail shopping space.
For conferences and social events, the Aqaba Marriott Hotel and Resort
will have 10,200 square feet of space including a 6,000 square-foot
ballroom that will be divisible into three sections and three
interconnecting 1,000 square-foot meeting rooms and two 600 square-foot
meeting rooms. Additional seasonal outdoor function space will be
available on the grounds.
The Marriott International lodging portfolio in Jordan includes the
294-room Amman Marriott hotel. The 216-room Jordan Valley Marriott
Resort at the Dead Sea will open in late 2001 and the 100-room Petra
Hotel will be converted to the Petra Marriott Hotel following an
extensive renovation. |
