SIA Cargo will
implement a series of adjustments to its global network of freighter
services.
Some of these changes are part of the company’s long term strategic
planning, but others have been prompted by the impact of recent events
in the United States.
From October 30, SIA Cargo will operate a twice-weekly service from
Singapore to Dallas-Fort Worth via Hong Kong.
On November 1, a twice-weekly service will commence from Singapore via
India to Munich and New York.
Announcing the new services, President of Singapore Airlines Cargo, Mr.
Hwang Teng Aun noted SIA Cargo will become the only international cargo
airline to operate a regular freighter service to Munich.
“Munich is an important centre for the automotive and electronics
industries in Germany, which will now have a direct air freight
connection to North America, India and South East Asia”, said Mr. Hwang.
SIA Cargo’s Dallas-Fort Worth service will also be the first by a South
East Asian cargo carrier to the important mid-South hub of the United
States.
In light of recent events in the United States, SIA Cargo will also
implement a number of changes to its network starting from October 8.
All shipments of more than 45kg will incur a surcharge of USD 0.10 per
kg to defray the increased cost of additional security procedures and
higher insurance premiums.
From October 28, SIA Cargo will reroute an existing freighter service to
Los Angeles via Seoul, instead of Macau. This will consolidate freighter
services in the Pearl Delta region at Hong Kong.
With these changes, Los Angeles will continue to be served on a daily
basis with freighter services from Singapore, and San Francisco will be
reduced to three times weekly.
A weekly freighter service to Melbourne and Perth will be suspended from
October 9, and frequency to Sydney has been reduced to twice weekly
since early September. Melbourne will continue to have a dedicated
freighter service. Perth, Melbourne and Sydney will continue to have
access to bellyhold capacity on SIA’s passenger services.
A weekly freighter service to Penang will also be suspended from October
5, but customers will still have access to the bellyhold capacity of
SIA’s 3 daily passenger flight to Penang.
SIA Cargo markets the bellyhold capacity of Singapore Airlines’ entire
passenger fleet. |
