Finnair, the
national airline of Finland, will inaugurate a new long haul flight
service between Helsinki and Hong Kong on February 7, 2002. The new
flights will be operated four times a week via Bangkok, which means that
the current Bangkok route will be increased to a daily frequency.
On days when Finnair is not flying to Hong Kong the flights will
continue from Bangkok to Singapore, as is already the case. All flights
will be operated with MD11 wide-bodied aircraft, which are to be
refurbished with an expanded Business Class and repainted in the new
Finnair brand livery.
Daily departure from Helsinki will be at 23.40 and arrival in Bangkok
14:30 (next day). Flights departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
and Sundays will continue to Hong Kong where they arrive the following
day at 19.20. Flights departing Helsinki on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays will continue to Singapore where they arrive the following day
at 18.55.
From Hong Kong the flights depart on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and
Sunday at 22.05 and from Singapore Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at
22.35.
From Bangkok flights depart daily at 00.20 and arrive in Helsinki at
07.00 the same day.
The schedules have been designed to enhance good connections with
Finnair's oneworld partners Qantas through Bangkok and Singapore and
with Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong. The departure and arrival times
at Helsinki are designed for good connections from Scandinavia, the
Baltics and Western Europe to and from South East Asia, Hong Kong and
Australia.
The ideal geographical position of award winning Helsinki airport as a
gateway between East and West will make this new routing a competitive
and comfortable choice for travellers. |
