Delta Air
Lines (NYSE:DAL) will start service from New York’s John F. Kennedy
International Airport (JFK) to Tokyo (Narita Airport) effective April 1.
The new flight is Delta’s first nonstop, round-trip service from New
York to Japan.
In celebration of this new flight, Delta will offer double miles for the
purchase of a round-trip Economy Class ticket and triple miles for the
purchase of a round-trip BusinessEliteä ticket for travel between New
York (JFK) and Tokyo from April 1 through June 30, 2001. SkyMiles
members in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean must pre-enroll
for this offer by calling 888-558-3358 and entering code1006.
"Delta’s entrance into the New York-Tokyo market elevates the travel
options for business and leisure travelers and shippers between the two
regions," said Mark A.P. Drusch, senior vice president - network
management. "With this new service, we continue to build upon Delta’s
leadership position in New York, where we offer customers world-class
service to the international destinations they most desire."
The new flight will be flown using MD-11 aircraft featuring the
award-winning BusinessElite service. The flight will depart JFK daily at
10:45 a.m. and arrive in Tokyo at 1:25 p.m. the next day. On the return,
the flight departs Tokyo at 3:15 p.m. and arrives in New York at 3:20
p.m.
New York-JFK is Delta’s largest international gateway, with service to
19 nonstop destinations in Europe. In addition to the service to Tokyo,
the carrier will soon launch flights to Cairo, Dubai, and Tel Aviv. Last
year, Delta added service to Lyon, Venice, Zurich, Aruba and Grand
Cayman, and also introduced BusinessElite U.S. service on
transcontinental routes between JFK and Los Angeles, San Diego and San
Francisco.

The carrier recently announced a $1.6 billion terminal expansion project
for its JFK facility. When completed, two new terminals will offer
customers enhanced travel conveniences, faster connections, and
additional expansion of domestic and international flights.
BusinessElite, Delta’s premium cabin service, features sleeper-style
seats with five feet of legroom, a unique one-touch fully electronic
state-of-the-art control system, plus upgraded amenities such as
personal in-seat videos.
