Aeroplan, Air
Canada's frequent flyer program, today announced that it is
participating in the world's first loyalty program currency exchange,
pointsxchangeTM launched by Points.com. Effective immediately, Aeroplan
members can exchange their points or miles from various other loyalty
programs for Aeroplan miles by simply opening a free account at
www.points.com. Later in the year, Aeroplan members will also have the
opportunity to exchange their Aeroplan miles for miles and points of
other participating loyalty programs.
"With Points.com, we provide our more than five million Aeroplan members
with a unique tool to get their reward travel faster than ever," said
Marc Trudeau, Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Development at
Aeroplan. "As Points.com adds more partners, Aeroplan members will enjoy
even greater opportunities to make every mile and point count. The
partnership with Points.com reflects our strategy of seeking innovative
ways to increase the value of the Aeroplan program for our members."
In March 2001, Aeroplan signed a commercial agreement with Points.com to
participate in their loyalty program currency exchange. Alaska Airlines,
American Airlines, America West Airlines, beenz.com, LoyaltyTravel,
Midwest Express Airlines and PhoneHog.com are also participating in
pointsxchange.
Points.com plans to add many more partners in the hotel, airline,
retail, financial and online sectors in the weeks and months to come.
In addition, pointsxchange offers various loyalty program management
tools which allow Aeroplan members to calculate exchange values,
exchange points/miles on an automatic basis, track account balances,
store account information, find awards, and set and monitor progress
towards award goals.
To promote the new program, Points.com is offering Aeroplan members one
free pointsxchange transaction and a chance to win 1 million Aeroplan
miles when opening a Points.com account and each time they use
pointsxchange between April 2 (April 5 for Québec residents) and
December 31, 2001.
