As part of an
on-going review to further enhance safety, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will
be introducing new footwear for its female cabin crew in April this
year.
The selected design, by Pierre Balmain, is a sling-back with a chrome
buckle that is affixed to the strap at the ankle. The front toecap, made
of poly-urethane, protects the toes and feet. The new shoe will be worn
by our female cabin crew only when the aircraft is taking off and
landing. The current sandal worn by the crew will still be used at all
other times.
The primary focus during the review process, which began in September
1999, was to recommend practical but attractive designs consistent with
the batik motif of the current sarong kebaya worn by our female cabin
crew.
Trials were conducted by selected cabin crew in December last year, for
about two months, to test the durability and comfort of these shoes.
Many cabin crew were consulted during the planning process, before the
introduction of the new footwear which was designed to improve comfort
and further enhance safety. |
