Galileo International Successfully Providing Solutions That Benefit All Parties In The Travel Equation

Travel News Asia Date: 27 November 2001

Galileo International, a leading provider of electronic global distribution services (GDS) for the travel industry, has significantly increased the deployment of its leading-edge solutions that not only benefit its airline and travel agency customers, but also the traveller. This includes additional electronic ticketing activations with a leading Asia Pacific airline and the deployment of its Interactive Sell™ product with a number of airlines around the world.

Electronic ticketing is now available with Singapore Airlines in the Netherlands and New Zealand. This is in addition to it being available in the previously announced countries of Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, and the UK. Through the deployment of electronic ticketing, Galileo provides benefits for all parties in the travel equation. Airlines and travel agents are able to offer a new dimension of customer service, while at the same time enjoying cost-savings in administrative processes and better use of its employees’ time. Electronic ticketing also offers passengers the advantages of flexibility and better time-management.

The availability of electronic ticketing with Singapore Airlines in the Netherlands and New Zealand follows the successful deployment of this value-add solution with Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong, as well as British Airways in Japan. To date, Galileo’s computer reservation systems include 33 airlines that offer electronic ticketing in 30 countries.

Running concurrently with these electronic ticketing enhancements has been the deployment of Interactive Sell™ with several airlines around the world. Galileo’s Interactive Sell product establishes a real-time link between the Galileo® system and the participating airlines’ systems, and enables sales to be processed simultaneously in both. This enables airlines with the capability of providing Galileo travel agency customers with access to its inventory down to the last available seat, which maximises revenue potential for the carrier by ensuring no possible sale is lost.

Galileo’s travel agency customers also receive benefits from Interactive Sell. Interactive Sell provides greater assurances in the sales process, and enables agents to sell more seats. Sales made through Interactive Sell are guaranteed and confirmed by the airline returning a record locator to the agent. Airlines that have recently deployed this leading-edge solution with Galileo include Taca International, Lasca, Jersey European, Albanian Airlines, Air Luxor, Precision Airlines, CityLine, Air Burkina, Caribbean Star Airlines and Air Vallee.

“Galileo is committed to providing technological solutions that not only deliver benefits to all its customers, airlines and travel agents alike, but also includes the traveller whenever possible. Solutions such as electronic ticketing and Interactive Sell do precisely that,” said Sally Newnham, Galileo’s general manager for airline sales and marketing in the Asia Pacific region. “Galileo has a presence in 115 countries world-wide, and it is this global footprint that allows us to successfully deploy our leading-edge solutions with such an international customer base.”
