Reed Travel
Exhibitions have recently announced that Green Globe 21 will extend the
concept of a day dedicated to the environment to Mediterranean Travel
Fair which will be held 24 - 26 September 2001 at the Cairo
International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Egypt.
Environmental Awareness Day that has been successfully applied at World
Travel Market for the past 5 years is to put a focus on the importance
of Sustainable Tourism for exhibitors and visitors.
The Environmental Awareness Day which will be held on 26 September, the
final day of the show, will include a number of varied elements. Green
Globe Chairman, Geoffrey Lipman will hold a seminar entitled 'Cutting
Costs and increasing Business through Sustainable Tourism'. The seminar
will be held at 11am and will show companies and communities how to take
practical steps, through Green Globe 21, to reduce costs, grow business
and increase customer loyalty. It will focus on the opportunities
emerging in Egypt and the region using real life examples.
A new Green Globe Award for Sustainable Tourism Communities will be
launched on the same day. The aim of this award is to make individual
destinations aware of the importance of green tourism.
In addition, the launch will take place of the Green Tick Campaign 2002
for Exhibitors worldwide - a programme to help exhibitors think and act
in an environmentally responsible way. There will also be special
discounts available for all exhibitors who wish to obtain Green Globe
membership.
Tom Nutley, Managing Director of Reed Travel Exhibitions said, "We have
a strong record of promoting the environment at World Travel Market.
This is an issue of growing importance and we intend to extend the
message of Sustainable Tourism throughout our businesses. The
Mediterranean region is an important venue because tourism is such a
central part of the old and new economy."
Geoffrey Lipman, Chairman of Green Globe 21 added " We intend to make
Mediterranean Travel Fair a beacon for Sustainable Travel in the region.
It is appropriate that we are launching this in Egypt which is such an
important travel market, with so much cultural heritage to conserve." |
