The Dubai
Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing's (DTCM) state-of-the-art
Human Resource Management System is the subject of a case study in the
opening chapter of a text book for first and second year college
students learning travel and tourism in Canada, according to a press
release issued by the department yesterday (October 22nd).
The book titled Steps to Success is an updated collection of the World
Travel and Tourism Council's Human Resource Centre's good practice case
studies.
"This is a proud moment for the department and Dubai to be featured in a
textbook for students of travel and tourism in Canada," said DTCM
Director General, Khalid A. bin Sulayem. "We are being used as role
models to educate a future generation of travel industry professionals,"
he remarked.
Mr. bin Sulayem noted that the DTCM's computer-based Personal Profiling
System supports the management of recruitment, training and development
of the department's staff at the Head Office in Dubai.
He stressed that the DTCM is committed to strategies that expand
training opportunities, raise front-line service standards and also
expand the cultural skills of tourism industry personnel to accommodate
the needs of an increasing number of foreign visitors.
DTCM Manager Human Resources, Abdul Hakim Thani said, "Employees form
the core of any organization and success or failure consistently depends
upon management's ability to recognize and develop people skills, and to
find the best person available to perform important assignments."
The book Steps to Success covers global good practices in tourism human
resources and provides a snapshot of what's happening all around the
world in the field of travel and tourism human resource management.
In each of the book's 55 articles, an organization shares its
experiences and results after implementing new, adapted, or in-house
human resource management policies, training programs, and philosophies.
For students training for a career in the travel and tourism industry,
or those who are upgrading their skills for re-entry, Steps to Success
will help achieve a fresh understanding of current workplace issues and
challenges.
Most of the research and writing for this book was undertaken at the
World Travel & Tourism Council's (WTTC's) Vancouver-based Human Resource
Centre. The WTTC is the global business leaders' forum for travel and
tourism. WTTC research identifies the potential for travel and tourism
to generate 252 million jobs by 2010 - an increase of 60 million new
jobs across the world economy. |
