Bass Hotels &
Resorts (BHR) today announced the re-branding of the Parkroyal
Wellington to Hotel Inter-Continental Wellington following the purchase
of the Hotel by BHR earlier this month.
“The Hotel is currently undertaking a re-furbishment program, which
along with the Hotel’s purchase is a significant investment
demonstrating BHR’s long-term commitment to consolidation and expansion
in the Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific (ANZSP) region,” said
BHR Chief Operating Officer Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific
(ANZSP), Tony South.
Parkroyal Wellington is an important hotel for Bass in this region, as
it will become Wellington’s first truly international deluxe hotel
following the completion of the Hotel’s refurbishment program.
“The re-branding to Hotel Inter-Continental Wellington is part of a
major re-positioning exercise and new marketing strategy to increase the
presence of its Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn global
brands and to achieve a leading market position in Australia, New
Zealand and the South Pacific region (ANZSP),” said Mr. South.
Situated in New Zealand’s capital, the Hotel Inter-Continental
Wellington’s re-brand and purchase supports the similar re-brand and
purchase of the Crowne Plaza Canberra in Australia’s capital and the
Inter-Continental Hong Kong.
The Hotel’s refurbishment program is set to commence soon, with the
first stage of renovations – the new Club Floors and lobby upgrades –
scheduled for completion early 2002.
“Just as the purchase of Hotel Inter-Continental Hong Kong opened a
gateway for BHR to Asia, so too will the purchase, re-branding and
refurbishment of Parkroyal Wellington as it increases our ability to
attract a greater share of international travellers and create an even
more attractive offering for the Hotel’s local guests,” Mr South added.
Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts is the newest member of the BHR
family, which include some of the most recognised hotel brands in the
world, including Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza. Upon re-branding, the
Hotel will join flagship property Hotel Inter-Continental Hong Kong,
Hotel Inter-Continental Sydney and a network of 140 Inter-Continental
hotels and resorts worldwide including other business locations such as
New York, London and Tokyo. |
