British Airways Code-sharing with Iberia goes longhaul

British Airways and Iberia are to extend their code-sharing arrangements to long-distance routes.

British Airways’ BA code will be added to Iberia’s six weekly flights between Madrid and Lima. With easy connections to and from London, this will make travel easier between Britain and Peru.

Iberia’s IB code will be placed on five weekly British Airways’ flights between London Heathrow and Bangkok. With smooth transfers to and from Madrid, this will offer excellent connections between Spain and Thailand.

These new code-sharing arrangements begin on Tuesday, May 1, and open for sale today (Thursday, April 26).

Iberia is the leading passenger airline across the Southern Atlantic, serving 21 destinations in Latin America, 14 of them with daily frequencies.

Code-sharing between the two oneworld alliance members was launched in June 1999 on an initial 14 routes. It currently extends to 33 routes in Spain, the UK and within the rest of Europe. The BA code is placed on Iberia services between Madrid and Almeria, Granada, Ibiza, Jerez, La Coruna, Lanzarote, Murcia, Oviedo, Palma, Pamplona, San Sebastian, Santander, Santiago de Compostella, Vigo and Zaragoza, between Barcelona and Ibiza and Jerez, and between Palma and Mahon and Ibiza; and the IB code is placed on British Airways services between London and Aberdeen, Belfast, Bermuda, Edinburgh, Faro, Glasgow, Newcastle, Oporto, Oslo, Palma, and Tenerife, and between Birmingham and Barcelona and Madrid.

Iberia and British Airways are both members of oneworld, the leading global airline alliance, together with Aer Lingus, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, LanChile and Qantas.
