Travel News Asia Date: 24 September 2001

Mr. Somchainuk Engtrakul, Acting President, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, today announced operational measures in response to effects on aviation industry following the recent terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center as follows:

1. THAI has implemented safety measures in compliance with the amended air safety regulations set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). THAI has recently replaced the inflight cutlery made of stainless steel with plastic on the route between Bangkok and the United States as well as United Kingdom. THAI passengers have been well informed to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to departure time and passengers are not permitted to carry any sharp objects on board the aircraft.

2. Cost-cutting measures

3. On 25th September, THAI will propose to the Cabinet to consider giving government indemnity to cover liabilities to third party, bodily injuries, death and loss/damage of properties as a result of war or terrorism arising out of THAI's operations.

4. THAI's Commercial Department is working on a plan to reduce flight operations on some regional routes. The plan will be designed to accommodate any situation including war or unrest. Incentive programs will be introduced to promote sales such as a complimentary ticket to travel to any domestic destination to which THAI flies for overseas travelers flying to Thailand.
