Copthorne
Orchid Hotel Singapore received the Patron of the Arts Award on Friday,
12 October 2001 from Mr Lee Yock Suan, Minister for Information and The
Arts (MITA) for its support towards the 2001 Singapore season of Chang &
Eng – The Musical, staged by ACTION Theatre.
The award was presented to Mr Richard Teo, General Manager of the hotel,
during National Arts Council’s annual Patron of the Arts Award 2001
presentation ceremony.
“This is the first time Copthorne Orchid Hotel Singapore is receiving
this prestigious arts award. We hope to continue our support towards
promoting cultural and artistic activities in Singapore in a more
strategic way, especially during the economic downturn when corporate
funding is crucial,” said Mr Richard Teo.
The hotel hosted the cast and crew of Chang & Eng with 1,280 room nights
totaling more than $340,000, for 3 months from 8 Nov 2000 to 8 Feb 2001.
Chang & Eng – The Musical is Singapore’s longest running homegrown
musical since 1997.
The Patron of the Arts Award was instituted in 1983 by the National Arts
Council to recognize individuals and organizations which have
contributed $300,000 or above towards the promotion of cultural and
artistic activities in Singapore.
Millennium & Copthorne Hotels’ (M&C) Singapore-based office received the
‘Friends of the Arts’ award in 1999. |
