United
Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James E. Goodwin today
announced a number of key appointments designed to further assist the
company in achieving its key goals of reliability, customer satisfaction
and new ventures that support the airline's growth.
Commenting on the appointments, Goodwin said: “These changes are
designed to accelerate our progress toward meeting our core business
objectives: customer satisfaction, improved profitability and
operational performance and employee satisfaction. I want to ensure that
our company is especially well-positioned to succeed in today’s
challenging and ever-changing business environment.”
The following appointments are effective immediately:
· Stuart Oran, 50, presently senior vice president-International, will
become president of the company's newly formed business jet subsidiary
and will report to Goodwin. Through this new unit -- the first of its
kind at a major airline -- United will launch business aviation products
including fractional ownership of business jets.
· Graham Atkinson, 50, presently senior vice president-Marketing, has
been appointed to replace Oran as senior vice president-International.
He will continue to report to United Airlines President Rono Dutta.
· Larry DeShon, 41, presently vice president-Customer Satisfaction, will
take over for Atkinson as senior vice president-Marketing. The Customer
Satisfaction Division will continue to report to DeShon and will be
integrated with the Marketing division. DeShon will continue to report
to Dutta.
· Montie Brewer, 43, presently vice president-Alliances, will become
senior vice president-Planning, reporting to Rono Dutta. This
appointment allows Doug Hacker, executive vice president and chief
financial officer, to focus more of his attention on United's new
business opportunities in private aviation and with its United
NewVentures subsidiary of which he also serves as president. The
Alliances group will now report to Atkinson in the International
Division. United Express and United Shuttle, which Brewer led as vice
president-Alliances, now will move to the North America Division under
Senior Vice President Chris Bowers.
· Pete McDonald, 50, presently vice president-Operational Services, has
been promoted to senior vice president-Airport Services, a new
organization that will report to Andy Studdert, executive vice president
and chief operating officer. The Airport Services unit will focus on
improving the airport operation for both customers and employees by
improving reliability, passenger processing and baggage handling.
· A new vice president position, reporting to Chris Bowers, also has
been created. Joe Laughlin, 53, presently vice president-Sales, becomes
vice president-Reservations. This appointment is part of United’s
increased focus on restoring and enhancing customer service. Frank Kent,
60, presently managing director-Northern California, becomes vice
president-Sales. |
