New
Munich Service To Begin This Week
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Lufthansa are jointly expanding their
service between Singapore and Germany, with effect from 24 March 2001.
Under the plan, SIA and Lufthansa will inaugurate a new Singapore-Munich
service as a code-share from the start of the summer timetable. The new
service will use Lufthansa A340-300 aircraft.
SQ 2002 / LH 789 will leave Singapore on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
at 11 p.m. and arrive in Munich at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Friday and
Sunday.
SQ 2001 / LH 788 will leave Munich at 8.35 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and
Friday, arriving in Singapore at 2.40 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday.
In addition, SIA will step up its B747-400 services between Singapore
and Frankfurt to twice daily, from July 2001. SIA currently operates 11
flights a week to Frankfurt.
SIA’s twice daily service and Lufthansa’s daily B747-400 flights to
Frankfurt, plus the Singapore/Munich code-share services, will give
travellers 24 weekly connections between Singapore and the two German
cities. They will have greater schedule choices and flexibility, with
both day and night departures, allowing them more direct connections
between Singapore and Frankfurt/Munich.
SIA’s Senior Vice-President Marketing Planning Mr Huang Cheng Eng said,
“Munich will become Singapore Airlines’ second gateway into Germany. Its
airport facilities are now being enhanced through the construction of a
new passenger terminal especially for Star Alliance partner airlines.
Through this we will be able to give our customers easy access to the
city’s business centre as well as the culture and festivals for which
the area is famed.
“The success of our flights to Frankfurt has shown that Germany is an
important strategic market for SIA. These new code-share services
represent a deepening in our close relationship with Lufthansa.”
Mr Carsten Spohr, Vice-President Alliances of Lufthansa, said “We are
pleased to enhance our cooperation with Singapore Airlines by further
extending our partnership.
This strategic alliance will benefit our customers because it offers
more flight options as well as seamless travel facilities of both
partners’ extensive networks.”
Passenger traffic between Singapore and Germany has been growing at
about 15% annually for the past two years.
Together, the two Star Alliance partners offer 484 weekly code-share
flights to 23 destinations world-wide. |
