A Million Skywards Miles To Be Won At Dubai World Cup In Charity Draw

Travel News Asia Date: 20 March 2001

One million Skywards Miles – that’s the equivalent of 15 return tickets from Singapore to Dubai - is the fantastic prize in the Thanks a Million raffle draw taking place at the Dubai World Cup in aid of the Dubai-based Riding for the Disabled (RDAD) charity.

One million Miles can also be exchanged for 100 short-haul trips, flight upgrades, tours and safaris with Arabian Adventures and stays at the luxurious Al Maha Desert Resort.

Not only that, the winner will automatically become a member of Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates and SriLankan, and can pass on the tickets and other privileges to family and friends !

Skywards is offering tickets for the grand draw throughout the day of the Dubai World Cup at Nad Al Sheba racecourse on March 24th. Tickets can be purchased from the Skywards Kiosk, the World Cup Information Booths at the International Village and from the Skywards team members who will be selling tickets in the racecourse enclosures.

Priced at just Dhs10 each (or six for Dhs50), everyone who buys a ticket for the “Thanks a Million” draw will receive a beautiful, miniature Dubai World Cup lapel pin as a memento of their visit to this fabulous racing extravaganza.

The proceeds will benefit RDAD in its work of teaching therapeutic riding to children and young adults with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, spina bifida and learning disabilities. The movement of the horse’s body exercises the young riders’ muscles and helps to strengthen them. In addition to having fun, they learn balance and co-ordination while building self-confidence. Two qualified instructors, with the help of some 50 volunteers, currently teach 55 riders from seven different countries, using six horses.

Skywards’ General Manager Brian LaBelle said: “Skywards has proved hugely successful since its launch less than a year ago, with over 160,000 members so far.

“We want to celebrate this success and show our appreciation for our members’ support by giving something back to the community in Dubai, and what better way than during Dubai World Cup Day when we can give people a chance to win such a valuable prize while helping a charity as worthwhile as Riding for the Disabled.”

Tickets for the “Thanks a Million” draw will also be sold at Breakfast with the Stars on March 22nd, where racing enthusiasts will mingle with the best and brightest of the international racing industry.

Emirates is the title sponsor of the Dubai World Cup on March 24th, when the winner will scoop a purse of US$6 million. The Group One race is the first leg of the Emirates World Series Racing Championship, which links the 12 most prestigious thoroughbred races around the globe.

In addition to reward flights on Emirates, SriLankan and partner airlines such as British Airways, All Nippon Airways, United Airlines, Continental Airlines and South African Airways, Skywards members can also receive flight upgrades, tours and safaris with Arabian Adventures or stays at the luxurious Al Maha Desert Resort.

However, the programme goes beyond just travel. Skywards Gold and Silver members can go online at the programme’s dedicated site, www.skywards.com to network with other like-minded business professionals in the exclusive SKYWARDS Alumnus business “club”. Gold members can benefit from another feature of the programme: opening doors, which gives access to private clubs and events around the world, and special benefits from partners.

Skywards members in the UAE can earn Skywards Miles on a day-to-day basis also, earning one Mile for every US dollar equivalent they spend, using the co-branded Emirates-Citibank Credit Card.
