Fresh from
being crowned by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) as an Ambassador for
the City of Life: Hong Kong is it! campaign, local superstar Leon Lai
went straight into action at a Hong Kong promotion in Seoul on Wednesday
(18 July), attracting thousands of his Korean fans to the event.
Some 1,000 people crowded to watch a live talk show with Leon at the
Millennium Plaza, inside one of the city’s biggest shopping malls, while
3,000 more entered a quiz competition to try to win a free trip to Hong
Kong.
All copies of a special set of postcards showing Leon with well-known
Hong Kong scenes were quickly snapped up, as were movie maps pinpointing
the locations of popular Hong Kong scenes and leaflets highlighting
events in the City of Life: Hong Kong is it! campaign.
“Leon was very excited to see such a huge turnout of his fans and joined
the crowd to talk to many of them personally,” reports Mr Hwan-Kyu Lew,
HKTB’s representative in Korea.
Leon also had a starring role in a press conference organised by the
HKTB that attracted more than 70 journalists from Korean TV and radio
stations, newspapers, magazines and Web sites.
On the previous day, Tuesday 17 July, Leon’s new movie Bullets of Love
was screened at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival,
drawing a full house of over 600 film enthusiasts and further strong
media publicity for the “City of Life”.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board was formerly known as the Hong Kong Tourist
Association (HKTA). The change took effect from 1 April 2001 and
reflects a change to the tourism body’s constitutional structure. Its
primary responsibilities for marketing and promoting Hong Kong as a
destination worldwide, and for providing visitors with assistance when
they arrive, remain unchanged. |
