From today,
information on flight-related health and fitness is available for air
travelers on the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ website www.klm.com. The site
offers passengers a unique jet lag prevention program, an interactive
fitness program, as well as practical tips and exercises for the run-up
to and during their flight, and for the period shortly after arrival.
The site enables passengers to prepare themselves physically for flying
long distance, and crossing time zones. The information is currently
available in Dutch and English, and other languages are soon to follow.
KLM has developed these interactive programs in cooperation with Dutch
internet company “in2Sports.”
Health information via various channels
KLM takes the well-being and comfort of its passengers seriously and
shares the concern among passengers and airlines regarding these issues,
such as the recent discussion surrounding thrombosis. The interactive
programs and the practical tips and exercises supplement the health
information that KLM already conveys to passengers through various other
channels.
Visitors first surf to www.klm.com and then select their local KLM site.
The online health and fitness tips can be found by clicking on the “KLM
Services” button and selecting “Travel & Health.” The KLM Travel
Clinic’s web pages on www.klm.com provide passengers with travel health
information and tips. Furthermore, KLM’s inflight magazine Holland
Herald has, for some time, been offering passengers tips to enhance
their comfort and arrive at their destination in shape. KLM also
recently began screening an instruction video on board its
intercontinental flights. The video stimulates passengers to perform
specific exercises designed to improve their physical comfort and
general well-being during the flight.
Fit4Flight - practical tips and exercises
The tips and exercises supplied by the Fit4Flight program help
passengers to stay fit before, during and after their flight. The
program consists of six exercises promoting circulation and
counteracting stiffness in muscles and joints. Passengers need not leave
their chairs to do these exercises. Each exercise is demonstrated on the
website with a short instructive video. The program also includes
information and tips on how to stay fit before, during and after a
flight.
Interactive jet lag prevention program
Jet lag fatigue is a familiar discomfort for passengers whose trip
traverses several time zones. KLM’s jet lag prevention program uses
current medical insight into the phenomenon to advise passengers on how
to adjust their biological clock to the day-night rhythm at their place
of arrival. Travelers can fill out their personal and flight data to
obtain tips on minimizing jet lag, customized for their personal
circumstances. KLM is first airline in the world to launch an
interactive online jet lag prevention program.
KLM Fit: general fitness program
The KLM Fit program offers travelers an intensive interactive training
program to raise their general fitness profile. Passengers fill out
their personal data and training objectives and are presented with a
customized and balanced training program directed at improving their
strength, suppleness and stamina. Each exercise is accompanied by clear
instructions, supplemented with personal tips from top athletes, such as
former Olympic champion athlete Ellen van Langen. The six-week training
program was developed in cooperation with experts at the Medical Sports
Center of the St. Anna Hospital in Geldrop, The Netherlands. |
