Bringing a
taste of Scotland to Central, Hong Kong, is Caledonia, the prominent new
Scottish bar and restaurant open from today. Located on the ground floor
of Hutchison House, Central, Caledonia will offer an unparalleled
selection of whisky together with traditional Scottish cuisine and
exclusive in-house Scottish ales in impressively authentic surroundings.
Presenting for the very first time in Hong Kong, the historic connection
between Scotland and the territory, Caledonia has been designed to
provide both a prestigious social centre for Hong Kong’s thriving
Scottish community and to offer a comfortably relaxed retreat for
businesspeople who can, if they choose, plug in their laptops to the
bar’s broadband connection to work or do business outside of the office.
Additionally, as a unique celebration of Scots in Hong Kong, Caledonia
will provide tourists with a congenial environment in which they can
learn about local history.
In addition to featuring a distinctive ‘Wall of Whisky’ spanning the
length of the public bar, Caledonia is also home to a sumptuous lounge
bar, which extending through the spacious upper level culminates in an
attractive a la carte dining area. Through its carefully considered
interior design, the entire upper level – with the exception of
Caledonia’s hallowed, exclusive private members bar - can furthermore be
transformed into one undivided room for the hosting of both in-house or
private events and functions.
With an on-going programme of planned tasting sessions, special nights
dedicated to featured malts, competitions and other events, Caledonia
aims to increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of its wide
variety of available whisky. “There is a very definite trend in the
popularity of whisky drinking happening in Hong Kong currently,”
comments Caledonia Managing Director, Kevin McBarron.
He continued, “It is simply our intention to provide both connoisseurs
and the curious - Scottish or not - with a fitting environment in which
to sample the very best of Scotland and for them to perhaps learn
something in the process. Despite the connection between Scotland and
Hong Kong having historically been and continuing to be very strong,
there has never been anything like Caledonia previously seen in Hong
Kong. We are very proud to be the pioneers of this concept and are
confident that our guests and private members will identify Caledonia as
being ‘the real McCoy’.” |
