PINK PANTHER TO REGALE SPECTATORS IN DUBAI DURING FOOD SURPRISES WEEK

Travel News Asia Date: 19 June 2001

The Pink Panther, one of the movie industry's hippest cartoon stars will regale spectators of all ages alike, with four daily performances at seven leading malls in Dubai during the forthcoming Food Surprises week (28th June to 4th July) according to the Government of Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) who are organising the week long fiesta.

"The Pink Panther has a universal appeal across all age groups from children to adults," said DTCM Manager Heritage Sites and Events and Chairman of the Food Surprises Committee, Awadh Al Seghayer. "From the early 70s to the present day, Pink Panther has been loved for his style, clever humor and colorful adventures and by bringing the character to perform in Dubai we will be providing the audience with wholesome entertainment."

"We decided on this pink-inked feline because of his cool fashionable style that is both amusing and idiosyncratic and the immense popularity of the character around the world," stressed Mr. Seghayer.

The Pink Panther is a recognisable figure in any setting, not just because of his conspicuous color, but also due to his heroism.

In Dubai Pink Panther will be accompanied by his faithful French friend and confidante Pierre and they will demonstrate the delicate art of French pastry cooking in line with the Food Surprises theme. The feline will perform in seven leading malls in Dubai and there will be no fee to watch the performances.

"Pink Panther is a hero and he is loved by the masses because they can identify with him," said Louis Hakim, Regional Marketing Manager (Middle East and Africa) of Philips, the company sponsoring the event. "The character is human in many aspects with its foibles and is every person's hero," he said.

Initially created by Friz Feleng for the opening title sequence of Director Blake Edwards' 1964 comedy farce 'The Pink Panther', the cartoon character received reviews that were as good or better than the film itself spawning a series of films and a variety of character-driven products for children as well as adults.
