Northwest Airlines Cargo To Implement Fuel Surcharge On VIP Same Day Package Service

Travel News Asia Date: 19 April 2001

NWA Cargo has announced that it will begin adding a fuel surcharge to VIP Same Day Package shipments beginning May 14, 2001. This charge is being implemented to offset the sustained increase in jet fuel prices.

The surcharge will be $.04 per pound on all VIP Same Day Package shipments. This fee will be assessed based on the actual weight of the shipment.

“This fuel surcharge is similar to the fee currently assessed on our Domestic and International Freight products,” said Tony Notermann, Director-Revenue Management. “We anticipate this charge will have a minimal impact for our customers as most VIP package shipments are relatively small.”

VIP Same Day Package Service provides “same day” delivery of urgent shipments seven days per week and 365 days per year. This guaranteed service can accommodate packages up to 100 pounds and is available for shipments within the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii) and Puerto Rico. Northwest Airlines Cargo can coordinate pick-up and delivery of VIP Same Day Package shipments, or customers may drop them off at any airport location served by Northwest Airlines or Airlink partners.

Northwest Airlines is the largest cargo carrier among U.S. combination carriers and operates more than 250 freight facilities worldwide.
