Swedish
building-constructor company NCC has agreed to find investors to a new
airport close to Aarhus, Denmarks second largest city, situated in the
east part of Jutland (West-Denmark), according to Nordic Travel Report.
The agreement comprises also the management operation of the airport.
The news were released by a group of business-people from the area,
which has for a long time worked with plans for a possible airport close
to Aarhus.
Several experts, however, do not believe that the plan will ever
materialize. Aviation analysts say that the infrastructure investments
in terms of roads etc. could easily be as high as DKK 3 billion, and
believe that return of investments cannot be achieved.
Moreover, they point to the fact that Jutland already has a modern
airport named Billund (BLL), with air services to 12 major European
cities. The distance from Aarhus to Billund is only 60 minutes by car.
Vagn Sorensen, SAS Senior Vice President, says to Nordic Travel Report
that Jylland has a passenger potential for only one airport with
international traffic.
On top of that, in a few years, trains from Aarhus can reach
Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport in only two hours and 30 minutes. (NORDIC
