Galileo International Further Strengthens Its Electronic Ticketing Services in Asia Pacific

Travel News Asia Date: 18 October 2001

Continuing its strategy of providing technological solutions that benefit all parties in the travel equation, Galileo International, a leading provider of electronic global distribution services for the travel industry, announced today that it has further expanded its electronic ticketing offerings in the Asia Pacific region. Galileo customers in Japan and Hong Kong are now able to benefit from this service enhancement with British Airways and Singapore Airlines respectively.

“Galileo continues to successfully work with leading airlines around the world to facilitate electronic ticketing in the Asia Pacific region. By supporting our airline customers with this leading-edge solution, Galileo is also providing benefits for its travel agency customers who, in turn, are able to offer more flexible service options to their clients,” said Janie Kaung, executive vice president and managing director for Galileo’s Asia Pacific region. “Galileo is actively working to further expand deployment of electronic ticketing throughout the region so that airlines and travel agents alike can enjoy the cost savings and efficiencies this service enhancement provides.”

British Airways joins a number of other leading airlines that offer this service with Galileo in the Asia Pacific region. Galileo already provides this service with United Airlines in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore; with Singapore Airlines in Singapore and Australia; and with Air New Zealand and Qantas in Australia and New Zealand.

For airlines, electronic ticketing is considered a cost-savings tool and an enhanced service to their customers. Administrative costs are greatly reduced over paper ticketing, improving the airline’s revenue accounting processes. Travel agencies benefit by no longer having to process or keep track of reams of paper tickets, saving on personnel, processing and delivery costs. The travelling experience for the consumer is also greatly enhanced, as they are able to enjoy the freedom, efficiency and ease that ticketless travel allows.

To date, Galileo’s computer reservation systems include 32 airlines that offer electronic ticketing in 25 countries.
