United
Airlines (NYSE: UAL) today announced recent changes to its uniform
guidelines covering customer service representatives in Uniteds hubs
that will allow for the sanctioned wearing of certain forms of religious
headdress.
With this change, Uniteds customer service employees at the carriers
hubs across the United States are allowed to wear a company-sanctioned
hijab, turban or yarmulke as part of their uniform. "We have been
studying this change for quite some time," said Yvette Bowden, United
director of diversity & people services. "We want our workforce to
reflect the diversity of our global customer base and so we are proud to
take yet another step in that direction."
United hopes this change in its uniform guidelines encourages candidates
of diverse backgrounds to continue seeking employment with the Airline.
As with any other change to the uniform guidelines, United remains
firmly committed to the safety, consistent appearance and
professionalism of our workforce.
United Airlines serves more of the worlds business centers than any
other airline. It operates more than 2,300 daily departures on a route
