The Royal Mulu
Resort and the Gunung Mulu National Park both received awards during
last Friday night’s Tourism Malaysia award ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.
The Royal Mulu Resort (RMR) received the “Excellence in Hotel Services”
for their hotel category, and the World Heritage Site Listed Gunung Mulu
National Park won the “Best Tourism Attraction - Nature Destination”
award.
“We are very happy that Mulu has received so much recognition from
Tourism Malaysia” explained RMR General Manager Walter Kohli. “We’ve
been working hard to build Mulu as a world-class destination, and to
share the wonders of Borneo’s rainforests with Malaysian and foreign
visitors”.
The Malaysian Tourism Awards 2000 evaluated the tourism industry for all
of Malaysia, in order to acknowledge the efforts of the various members
of the hospitality and tourism industry. There were over 30 different
awards given within 12 categories, recognizing everything from
contributions to tourism, tour operators, restaurants and destinations.
There were awards for the Public Sector, Private Sector, individual
efforts, tourism articles, tourist attractions and more.
Both Royal Mulu Resort and the Mulu National Park competed against
properties and destinations throughout the Malaysia, making this a
significant win. The Sarawak Cultural Village also won for the “Best
Tourist Attraction - Incentive Theme, meaning that that Sarawak won both
“Best Tourism Attraction” awards.
Kohli explained that Mulu focuses on “providing Malaysian and foreign
visitors with a memorable experience. In the National Park, which is one
the newest World Heritage Sites, there are rainforest hikes, river
journeys, the great Bat exodus, educational tours and of course the
massive Mulu Caves. There are easy hikes perfect for families, and also
some hard-core programs for the adventurous - Mulu has something for
everyone”
“At the Resort, we round out the Mulu experience with natural Sarawak
hospitality, recreational activities, international levels of facilities
and services in a relaxed, resort atmosphere.” The Resort incorporates
local culture into the guest experience, including introducing ethnic
Sarawakian foods and with cultural shows, performed by the Resort’s
staff.
“We are indeed very honoured that the Royal Mulu Resort and the Gunung
Mulu National Park have both been recognized in the Malaysian Tourism
Awards. This is a big boost for us - it gives us motivation to keep on
pushing to be the best, and certainly adds credibility to our
destination.”
The Royal Mulu Resort was recently host to an IUCN / UNESCO forum on
World Heritage Sites and Karst (caving) systems; additionally, visitors
can easily get to Mulu with the all new Vision Air (085-423221) or
through MAS services. |
