United
Airlines (NYSE:UAL) today announced that it will expand its presence in
Asia with the introduction of code share service through its Star
Alliance partner Thai Airways to Vietnam beginning Saturday, November
17, 2001. The expansion has been approved by the Vietnamese government.
Once implemented, the new Vietnam market will bring the number of
destinations served via code share by United on the Asian continent to
17.
United will place its code on the Thai Airways operated flights five
times a week, between Bangkok and Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City. United
flight 3980 from Bangkok (BKK) to Saigon (SGN) and United flight 3981
from Saigon to Bangkok will operate Monday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday.
"We are proud to serve this market for the first time in United's 75
year history," said Graham Atkinson, United senior vice president -
international. "The opportunity to expand code share service to Vietnam
is an example of our commitment to provide our Star Alliance customers
with expanded global service."
Both carriers are members of Star Alliance, the world's leading airline
