The Dubai
Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has arranged a full
calendar of cultural activities and events during the forthcoming Eid
holidays for visitors to the Shindagha heritage sites that preserve and
perpetuate Arabian heritage.
"The Shindagha heritage sites will be a place to relax and enjoy the
festive spirit," said DTCM Manager Heritage Sites and Events, Awadh Al
Seghayer. "Eid fosters a unique emotion both among locals and visitors
and we anticipate that everyone will enter into the spirit of the
occasion and have an enjoyable time as we promote our customs and
traditions and showcase the country's heritage for the benefit of all,"
he stressed.
Prominent activities will include a laser show using the walls of Sheikh
Saeed Al Maktoum House as a backdrop, a carnival of classic cars and
motorbikes, police cavaliers show, parachuting aerobatics, firework
displays and a camel race.
Salient features of the festivities will include nightly musical
performances by bands from the UAE as well as specially flown in troupes
from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
The stage in the Heritage and Diving Village will provide a platform for
traditional musicians and folkloric singers, instrumental music and
dramas.
A souk (traditionally known as tabaakhaat) will sell delicious Arabic
bread and other cuisine on a daily basis.
"Exhibitions of precious jewellery, Arabian horses, books and
documentaries and traditional perfumes among others will be on show for
the visitors," Mr. Seghayer added.
Spectacular fireworks will light up the skies above the Shindagha
promenade for 15 minutes every evening starting at 8.00 PM. Mr. Seghayer
stated that young ones would be well catered for during the celebrations
with an art workshop, a fun city as well as camel and pony rides.
"There will be a number of quizzes and competitions including the
Philips Traditional Gulf Dishes Competition, a poetry recitation event,
a best traditional dress event and the win-a-pearl competition that has
proved very popular in the past," concluded Mr. Seghayer. |
