In an amicable
decision by Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts and the Far East
Organisation, the companies have agreed to end Le Meridien's management
of the Le Meridien Changi property on March 31, 2002.
The move is a result of Le Meridien's world wide strategy to restyle
certain hotels. While relations between the Far East Organisation and Le
Meridien hotels have been excellent, the owners felt Le Meridien's plans
for change did not complement the Changi property and the two
organisations have amicably agreed to terminate their relationship.
Le Meridien Asia Pacific Managing Director Mr Michael Sagild said:
"The Le Meridien brand remains strong in Singapore with the successful
Le Meridien Singapore Orchard Hotel. A strong working relationship
remains with the Far East Organisation and both companies will
investigate opportunities for the future."
Le Meridien Global Chief Executive Jurgen Bartels, announced plans in
September which will see an extensive upgrade to all Le Meridien owned
and leased properties. With a total investment of 850m planed in the
next three years the new "Art & Tech" concept, underpinned by the latest
in technology and meticulous detail, will be at the heart of the
renovation program.
