The opening of
Hong Kong Disneyland may still be four years away, but Disney fans don’t
have to wait to see a touch of real, live Disney magic in the “City of
Life”. From 29 November to 9 December, over 60 of the most beloved
Disney characters will be in Hong Kong to enchant visitors and residents
of all ages in a brand new production of Disney on Ice.
Disney on Ice – 100 Years of Walt Disney Magic is part of the
celebrations marking the centenary of Walt Disney’s birth in 1901, and
has been specially created to highlight the special Disney moments that
have captured the hearts and inspired the imaginations of children and
adults alike. In fact, the actual anniversary day – Wednesday 5 December
– will be celebrated during the Hong Kong season.
Brought to Hong Kong by world-leading impresarios Feld Entertainment,
Inc, and promoted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) as part of the
City of Life: Hong Kong is it! campaign, Disney on Ice – 100 Years of
Walt Disney Magic combines the beauty of world-class figure skating with
the renowned entertainment that is a Disney hallmark. Its eye-dazzling
sets, colourful costumes, cutting edge choreography, and a sing-along
score of favourite Disney tunes will make it a show that no-one wants to
miss.
As well as featuring all the best-known Disney characters including
Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pinnochio and Jiminy Cricket, the
extravaganza will bring its own touch of Chinese history to Hong Kong
with Mulan among its stars. Scenes from other recent film favourites
like A Bug’s Life and The Lion King will also be delightfully recreated
on ice.
Although this is not the first time Disney on Ice has visited Hong Kong
– the last was three years ago – 100 Years of Walt Disney Magic will be
the most spectacular production yet seen in the Events Capital of Asia.
In total some 60 Disney characters will join the celebrations at the
Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, portrayed by some of the
world’s finest young professional skaters from the United States,
Canada, Australia, Russia and Japan. Their performance of breathtaking
pair skating, moving solos and spectacular production numbers has been
created by Emmy-award winning choreographer Sarah Kawahara.
Tickets for the 11-day show will go on sale from tomorrow at Ticketek
counters and ESD Life kiosks.
A visit to Disney on Ice will provide the perfect start to a
pre-Christmas visit to Hong Kong, when the shops and restaurants are
brimming with seasonal cheer. This year the Christmas lighting will be
more spectacular than ever, as from 9 December onwards, the HKTB is
co-ordinating a blitz of special lighting displays along the
harbourfront and in all the major shopping areas, under the title Hong
Kong Lights Up. Another event in the City of Life: Hong Kong is it!
programme, Hong Kong Lights Up will include special lighting shows,
competitions and tours of the lights by bus, tram and harbour cruiser.
