Virgin
Atlantic Airways today announced that it will be the first and only
airline screening all of the England football team’s Euro 2000 matches
onboard. Virgin will be broadcasting the matches, in association with
sportal.co.uk, and Orange over its inflight entertainment system the day
after the match has been played on all longhaul routes.
The matches to be screened are England v Portugal (played on 12th June,
broadcast onboard on 13th June), England v Germany (played on 17th June,
broadcast on 18th June) and England v Romania (played on 20th June,
broadcast onboard on 21st June).
If England gets as far as the quarter final and semi-final those matches
will also be screened. Regardless of whether England makes it to the
final, the match will be screened onboard on 3rd July.
Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin Atlantic Airways, said:
“Broadcasting the Euro 2000 matches onboard ensures that football fans
who have missed the match through travelling can see it on their return
journey and passengers travelling out can experience the excitement
again.
“I am looking forward to Euro 2000, it promises to be a fantastic
competition and this way none of our passengers have to miss out. The
matches will be sponsored by Sportal, (the official website producer for
Euro 2000TM) and Orange and I would like to thank them for making this
possible.”
Each Virgin Atlantic passenger has their own seat-back television screen
which means that those who are not football crazy can watch up to twenty
alternative channels. |
