The Sheraton
Surabaya Hotel & Towers is delighted to announce the new appointment of
Mr. Tim Steckbeck as the General Manager. He is responsible in all daily
operations of this 359-room five star hotel & towers and 53 apartments
and direct activities of 426 employees, including 21 department heads.
He replaces Mr. Robert Van Meerendonk who moved to Sheraton Doha, Qatar,
Middle East.
Tim has been in Asia for 5 years before arriving in Surabaya. He has 20
years of experience in the hospitality industry and most recently was
the Hotel Manager at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers in
Bangkok, Thailand, a 772-room hotel. During his two years there, he
assisted the General Manager in all daily operations and was involved in
managing the hotel's renovation project, collaborated on design in
project management of US$ 10 million construction of new groups lobby, 5
new meeting rooms, and 650 guest rooms. He was also chosen to be Acting
General Manager of Westin Kunming, China during opening month.
Prior to joining Sheraton, from 1996 to 1998, he served as Director of
Food & Beverage at The Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel in Manila. He
supervised direct activities of 450 employees including 60 managers and
was responsible for Food & Beverage outlets, banquet operations, meeting
facilities and room service.
From 1994 to 1995, he was the Director of Food & Beverage at the Pan
Pacific Hotel in Singapore. Before arriving in Asia, Tim has spent most
of his time in United States, his native country. He started his career
as an Assistant Front Office Manager at The Westin Century Plaza Hotel,
Los Angeles, California, USA. Ten years later, he was Director of Food &
Beverage at The Westin Hotel San Francisco Airport in Millbrae,
California, USA for four years. He delivered many successful events and
was awarded as "Best Food & Beverage Operation" nationally.
Graduated from the University of Denver in Colorado-USA, Tim earned a
BS/BA. He is a member of the Chaine de Rotisserie and of the Ordere le
Cote de Champagne.
