Boeing
Airplane Services today confirms that it has contracted with Northwest
Airlines Cargo for the modification of two 747-200 airplanes from
passenger to freighter configuration. Terms of the contract were not
disclosed.
Both airplanes will be converted at the Boeing Airplane Services Wichita
Modification Center. The first airplane is scheduled for arrival and
induction in December 2000 and the second is scheduled to arrive in
February 2001.
Passenger to freighter modification involves primarily the removal of
the passenger furnishings, installation of a side cargo door and
installation of a cargo handling system.
The converted 747-200 will be capable of carrying approximately 230,000
pounds of cargo; its range will be approximately 3,200 nautical miles
with full payload.
