Continental
Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) today announced daily, nonstop service
between New York and Aruba beginning Feb. 14, 2001, subject to
government approval. As previously announced, Continental will launch
nonstop service between those destinations with four flights each week
beginning in December. The airline will then increase frequency to daily
service in mid-February.
"Continental Airlines originally planned to make four nonstop flights
each week," said Senior Director of Planning Buddy Anslinger, "but
strong market conditions will allow us to 'step up to the plate' and
launch daily service between New York and Aruba."
Continental's New York flight will depart from Newark International
Airport at 8:40 a.m. and arrive in Aruba at 2:35 p.m. The return flight
will depart at 3:25 p.m. and arrive in New York at 7:15 p.m. The airline
will operate a Boeing 737-700 aircraft equipped with 12 first class and
112 economy class seats.
As the No. 2 U.S. carrier to Latin America and the Caribbean,
Continental serves 19 countries and 47 cities in the region, offering
more than 500 weekly flights. The airline already offers twice-weekly
service between Aruba and its Houston hub.
Continental Airlines is the fifth largest airline in the U.S., offering
more than 2,400 departures daily to 138 domestic and 92 international
destinations. With hubs in Newark, Houston, Cleveland and Guam,
Continental serves more international cities than any other U.S.
carrier, including extensive service throughout the Americas, Europe and
Asia. |
