Northwest Airlines Enhances Benefits For Frequent Business Travellers

Travel News Asia Date: 7 June 2000

If you are a frequent flyer, there has never been a better time to join WorldClubs, Northwest’s membership based airport lounge program. The membership structure has changed, new clubs are being built, new rates with special WorldPerks Elite discounts have been announced, and expanded access with a current WorldClubs membership is now possible.

One Membership – Worldwide Access

The WorldClubs membership program has changed to a single-tier structure allowing WorldClubs members to enjoy the comforts of 91 WorldClubs and affiliated lounges worldwide, including all WorldClubs in the US and Asia, the newly renovated KLM Business Class lounges in Amsterdam, many other KLM affiliated Business Class lounges in Europe, America West Clubs and Continental Airlines President’s Clubs in the United States and San Juan, Puerto Rico. As a result of Northwest’s new relationship with Alitalia, WorldClubs members also enjoy access to Alitalia lounges, such as those in Rome, Palermo, Sicily, and Rio De Janiero.

New and Updated WorldClubs Lounges

Northwest is also expanding its lounge network in the United States with new WorldClubs in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Memphis and San Francisco’s international airport terminal, plus an expanded and renovated lounge in Chicago O’Hare. These clubs will showcase the latest in personal comfort and convenience – adding larger seats with integrated data and power ports, a more luxurious lounge area, an elegant lobby, internet access, self-service fax machines, and even a fireplace. “The new WorldClubs will give our guests more personal, comfortable, productive space and feature a wide-array of pleasing amenities,” said Judy Brandt, Northwest director WorldClubs.

Northwest is also upgrading and expanding the selection of amenities at all U.S. WorldClubs with fresh seasonal fruit, cheese and crackers, vegetables and dip, premium espresso, latte, and cappuccino, local newspapers, upgraded beer, wine and more.

New Membership Rates, WorldPerks Elite Membership Discounts

Effective July 1, 2000, the new single-tier WorldClubs membership structure will offer new membership fees, including special rates for WorldPerks Elite members.

WorldClubs Access With A Current Membership

Effective immediately, all WorldClubs members – including Lifetime members – will enjoy access to all WorldClubs and affiliated lounges worldwide, even if the current membership was purchased to allow only domestic access.

Northwest is the world’s fourth largest airline and with its travel partners serves more than 750 cities in nearly 120 countries on six continents. Northwest is the recent recipient of the 2000 Air Transport World Airline magazine “Technology Management” award. Northwest’s WorldPerks frequent flyer program is the highest rated U.S. based program reviewed by InsideFlyer magazine, the leading authority in airline free travel programs, and in 1999 was named the most preferred frequent flyer program by the readers of Time magazine in Asia. WorldPerks received the special “Industry Impact Award” at InsideFlyer’s 12th Annual Freddie Awards in January 2000.
