More than 900
women from British Airways are joining forces to take part in the
British Airways Race for Life 2000 charity run today (6 July 2000) at
the airline’s headquarters in Harmondsworth.
The ‘British Airways Race for Life’ is one of a nationwide series of 5km
walks and runs, exclusively for women, raising money for the Imperial
Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) for research into women’s cancers.
British Airways has supported the Race for Life since 1995 raising over
£165,000 to date. This is the second year the event will be organised
and run by British Airways staff, hoping to raise over £100,000.
Rushna Master, British Airways’ Race for Life 2000 Manager, said: "After
being part of last year’s Race success I felt we had to organise it
again. It never ceases to amaze me how creative and responsive our BA
people are. More than 900 women have come forward from all over the UK
to take part in the Race. Together we’ve helped to make a real
difference - turning science into hope and turning hope into science and
I feel very proud to have been part of that team."
Male colleagues and families are also invited to support the runners and
to enjoy the carnival atmosphere - there’ll be live entertainment, food
stalls, a beer tent, bouncy castle, massage, funfair rides, face
painting and much more.
Ali Cross from the Imperial Cancer Research Fund said: "British Airways
has always been a keen supporter entering a team of over 400 women to
our flagship race in Battersea Park. It was a natural progression for
British Airways to host the first ever company-organised event last year
and we hope that this year’s Race will raise even more money. |
