American
Airlines will purchase eight more Boeing aircraft – two 757-200s for
delivery in the first half of 2002, four 737-800s to come into the fleet
during 2002 and two 777-200ERs to be delivered in 2003.
"This will allow for some modest growth," said Don Carty, American’s
chairman and CEO. "We’ve been successful in opening new routes and
expanding existing services, while selectively evaluating new revenue
opportunities. These aircraft will support further opportunities and
were already in the plan."
This order gives American a total of 113 outstanding firm orders and
brings the total 777, 757 and 737 firm plus on-hand counts to 47, 125
and 117, respectively. American holds an additional 55 purchase rights
for more new Boeing aircraft for delivery through 2003. |
