July 2, 2000
marks the proud return of Canadian Airlines to Australia and the
continuation of 51 years of service history for Canadian in Sydney.
Inaugural flights from Toronto and Vancouver will launch year round,
daily direct service via Honolulu that will build and strengthen the
relationship between Canada and Australia. Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney
- all exciting, thriving cities - are growing through enterprises in
business, tourism, conferences, and the arts and - of course, sports.
Sydney is one of the world's great cities and is alive with a vibrant
culture and history, graced with a spectacular harbor and renowned for
the friendliness and energy of its people.
``The timing for this launch couldn't be better - with the 2000 Olympic
Summer Games beginning in just 80 days,'' said Brock Friesen, Canadian
Airlines Vice President Alliances. ``In 1949, Canadian Airlines'
predecessor Canadian Pacific began service to Australia and we are
thrilled to return to Sydney in 2000 at such an exciting time.''
The original service covered 8,403 miles for a total flying time of 36
hours. Today's efficient service on state-of-the-art Boeing 767-300ER
aircraft offers customers Canadian's award-winning Business Class,
complete with our popular Chef's Conclave and luxurious Millennium
Seats, and an option of a Hawaii stopover.
Customers of Canadian Airlines and Air Canada can now earn double
mileage points on their first booking to Sydney until the end of August.
The inaugural flight to Sydney departs Canada on July 2 and continues
the launch of an integrated Canadian Airlines and Air Canada summer
schedule, offering customers 32 new routes, 12 new destinations and over
2,000 daily non-stop flights. |
