KLM Cargo Launches Freighter Service to Helsinki and Improves UK/Ireland S chedule

Travel News Asia Date: 3 July 2000

KLM Cargo will begin operating freighter services between Amsterdam and Helsinki, Finland, on August 14. The twice-weekly services will be operated on Tuesdays (depart. AMS 11:00, depart. HEL 20:45) and Saturdays (depart. AMS. 00:30 and depart. HEL 06:00), offering Finnish import and export cargo attractive connections with KLM Cargos network. Throughput timesavings will range from 24 to 48 hours. The services will be operated by A300 equipment, leased from Schreiner Airways.

Furthermore, improved schedules will be introduced for the five weekly freighter services between Amsterdam and Manchester, U.K., and six weekly services between Amsterdam and Dublin, Ireland. Departure out of Dublin and Manchester will be shifted from late afternoon to late night, ensuring connections with flights departing Amsterdam the next day. On Saturdays, the capacity available for Manchester and Dublin will be doubled by adding an additional flight.

These changes are made possible by the suspension of services between Amsterdam and Skavsta, near Stockholm in Sweden. Additional truck services will be introduced to serve the important Swedish market. This includes security trucks for valuable goods such as high-tech and telecommunications equipment and components.

KLM Cargo will also operate a temporary once-weekly service between Amsterdam and Bologna, Italy, from July to September, to circumvent the weekend truck bans at the Italian border. This flight will be operated on Saturday night.
