August 2000, 8:00 p.m Her Majesty Queen Sirikit graciously presided over
the concert “Heart of the Kingdom”, organized by Thai Airways
International Company Limited at the Main Hall, Thailand’s Cultural
Center. Present to welcome Her Majesty were H.E. Suthep Thaugsuban,
Minister, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mr. Mahidol
Chantrangkurn, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and
Communications, Mr. Thamnoon Wanglee, THAI’s President and his wife
Khunying Rangsima Wanglee, and Mr. Manrut Srikranont, Thailand’s
National Artist 1992, Drama (International Musical Performance category)
The main objective of the concert “Heart of the Kingdom” was to
celebrate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Birthday, all proceeds from which
will be presented to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Bangkok Symphony
Orchestra provided musical accompaniment, which was specially conducted
by Rear Admiral Veerapan Voklang, with special piano-solo performances
by two well-known artists, Miss Inthu-on Srikranont from Thailand and
Mr. Artas Balakauskas from Lithuania.
The four main musical ensembles performed at the concert were Pavane
pour une Infante composed by French composer, Maurice Ravel; a Piano
Concerto composed by the famous 20th century French composer, Francis
Poulenc; La Valse by Maurice Ravel; and the Orchestra Suite performance
of The Birds composed by Italian born composer, Ottorino Respighi. |
