A rich,
elegant décor; the latest in entertainment and communications
technology; an international buffet with a variety of appetising
culinary treats; and luxurious furniture from around the world --- all
these and more are available at Singapore Airlines' new Silver Kris
Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport.
The new Lounge, a haven for Singapore Airlines' (SIA) First and Raffles
Class customers awaiting flight departures, was officially opened today
by Singapore's Director-General of Civil Aviation, Mr Wong Woon Liong.
Developed at a cost of S$5.3 million and occupying an area of 30,000
square feet, it is 10 per cent larger than the original lounge and can
seat 650 customers, 200 in the First Class section and 450 in the
Raffles Class area.
"Lounges have become an indispensable part of image and brand building,"
said SIA's Executive Vice-President (Commercial) Michael Tan. "Our
Silver Kris Lounge has gone a long way to strengthen our overall
competitiveness."
Some of the new facilities will be welcomed by the business traveller
who wishes to continue working while waiting for a flight. The Lounge's
upgraded business centre is equipped with more Internet ports to make it
even easier to stay in touch with economic developments around the
globe.
At the same time, great care has been taken to create a soothing
atmosphere in which customers can relax before they start their journey.
The Lounge offers an environment of elegance and exclusiveness, dotted
with tropical plants, plush armchairs, deep-pile carpeting, and
aquariums, all complemented by a gentle colour scheme. The walls are
adorned with paintings by renowned Singapore artists - a feature
replicated in other Silver Kris Lounges around the world.
Customers can enjoy an extensive array of light self-service
refreshments including Danish pastries, sandwiches, cakes, and fresh
fruit, along with local favourites like nasi lemak and roti jala. A
mini-buffet is available for both breakfast and dinner.
Freshly-brewed Italian roasted coffee is available for the coffee
connoisseur, while wine lovers can choose from a fine selection of wines
and champagne.
New entertainment and communications facilities include 42-inch plasma
television screens showing round-the-clock news and sports updates from
a variety of news and entertainment channels.
Said Mr Tan: "Whether our customers want to get on with their work in
our business centre, catch up on some sleep in one of our sleeperettes,
or simply sit back and be entertained by the latest hi-tech audio-video
equipment, they will be able to do so in a style offered only by SIA. We
shall continue to find ways of ensuring the Silver Kris Lounge remains
at the forefront of airport lounges worldwide."
In the coming months, SIA will be investing over S$13 million in
building or refurbishing other Silver Kris Lounges around the world,
including those in London, Melbourne, Sydney, San Francisco, Osaka and
Seoul. |
