VIRGIN BLUE
Airlines & goFish.com.au team together to launch the first online
airline seat auctions in Australia
VIRGIN BLUE Airlines and gofish.com.au, News Interactive’s online
auction business today launched the first online airline seat auction in
Australia, through an exclusive agreement.
Virgin Blue has teamed up with the leading online auction site goFish to
offer Australians a fun new way to pick up great airline deals in a move
set to further shake up the domestic airline industry.
It will be the first time airfares in Australia have gone to auction
online and highlights another innovative initiative by Brisbane based
Virgin Blue. It is also a reinforcement of Virgin Blue’s commitment of
offering low fare deals to the Australian public.
The initial auction kicks off today on goFish.com.au with a cheeky
Melbourne Cup promotion. On offer are 30 packages which include
Brisbane/Melbourne return airfares and tickets to attend the most
celebrated annual sporting event in Australian history.
The biggest draw-card of the auction is that opening bid prices have
been set at $25, no reserve.
This first promotion is just a taste of things to come. Travellers
should keep an eye out for more Virgin Blue seat auctions, which will be
happening soon on goFish.com.au.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive Officer, Brett Godfrey, said, “There is
plenty of talk at the moment about what airline seats are worth and this
auction is a fun, innovative way to let people decide themselves what
they think they should pay.”
He continued, “We’re proud to say it’s a first in the Australian market
and we look forward to working with goFish to offer Australians more
exciting online deals in the future.”
Patrice McAree, Managing Director for News Interactive, said, “There is
great harmony between the two brands. Both are innovative, energetic and
dedicated to giving people value for money. We’re thrilled to be working
with Virgin Blue”.
The online auction commencing today on goFish.com.au, runs through to
12noon
Thursday November 2nd.
This first auction will be followed soon by Sydney/Brisbane and
Brisbane/Sydney
airfare auctions. |
