A conference
that promises to furnish firms with proven e-business solutions across
six ‘building blocks’ of business, is being staged in Dubai (October
22-23 2000).
Summit Dubai, dubbed the region’s first-ever business symposium by
organisers, Global Management Consultants, will spotlight from the e-age
viewpoint what it considers to be the six business essentials : business
strategy, leadership, HR, information technology, finance and
administration and marketing. The focus is instrumental to businesses of
all sizes embracing e-business - established or start-ups,
multi-national, family-owned or ‘boutique’, says Global.
“This is not another IT event but ‘an e-business forum with a
difference’”, according to Global’s chief executive, Saira Azhar. “It is
not about hardware and systems. Summit Dubai is about the impact of
e-business on the day-to-day operations of companies of all sizes and
about how they can embrace e-business solutions for organisational
effectiveness.”
In a sign that its chosen subject matter is truly topical, Summit Dubai
has secured the patronage of Dubai Internet City (DIC) and the support
of the Department of Economic Development (DED), as well as numerous
leading companies, including IT company, Microsoft, as key sponsor.
The firms participating as speakers are : American Express, Andersen
Consulting, Arthur Andersen, Bywater, Cisco Systems, Fusion Consulting,
Hay Group, Motorola and Oracle. Dubai FM is initiating radio interviews
with participants in the weeks that lead up to the event.
Most companies have requested the presence of an ‘international’
colleague to deliver the presentation, while the firm’s regional chief
is to act as session moderator. “The ‘duo-style’ presentation ensures
that a global and a regional viewpoint in each of the six e-topics is
tabled for debate,” explained Azhar.
The symposium aims to attract a compact, high-level audience comprising
senior corporate management and specialist consultants : “Specifically,
the role of the consultant will come under scrutiny. We will debate just
how companies can use third-party expertise. The overriding aim here
will be to ‘throw out’ the seemingly negative stigma attached to
consultants in general.”
On e- definition, Azhar said that it is still commonplace for e-commerce
and e-business to be confused : “E-commerce is the buying and selling of
goods, whereas e-business is about the way in which we conduct
traditional business activities in the web-driven environment.
“This brings us into a ‘new age’ of business implementation and attitude
– this is what Summit Dubai will bring to the fore.”
According to Azhar more 200 business influencers are set to attend
Summit Dubai, which will be held at Emirates Towers "This is not another
