PATA RELEASES CONTEMPORARY AVIATION STUDY

Travel News Asia Date: 26 December 2000

PATA announces the release of Contemporary Aviation: Issues in Regulation & Practice for the Tourism Sector. The study describes and analyses the policies, driving forces and restraints operating on international airlines today. The report was written for PATA’s Strategic Information Centre by aviation consultant, Mr. John M.C. King of Aviation & Tourism Management Pty Ltd in Australia.

The 90-page report explains the principles of airline economics, deregulation, the evolution of traffic rights and the new reality of alliances, hub strategies and complexing.

Mr. King said: "The study clearly lays out the pressures, demands and resulting strategies airlines resort to in order to stay viable amid fierce competition, exacting regulations, new technology and strategic alliances."

Contemporary Aviation shows tourism officials how they can present a proposal to an airline in order to have it add a new route to a source market, or reinstate an old route. With a copy in hand, businesses related to the aviation sector such as consultancies and tour operators as well as academic institutions can also gain a much better understanding of today’s aviation trends and strategies, especially the regulatory framework.

Contemporary Aviation: Issues in Regulation & Practice for the Tourism Sector is the insider’s boarding pass to a higher understanding of the aviation industry -- past, present and future.

The report costs US$100 for PATA members and US$250 for non-members.
