The Hong Kong
Tourist Association (HKTA) welcomes the Hong Kong SAR Government’s
announcement today (October 24) of the appointment of Mrs Rebecca Lai Ko
Wing-yee, (currently Deputy Secretary for Financial Services
-Administrative) as the new Commissioner for Tourism.
At the HKTA’s Annual General Meeting this afternoon, HKTA Chairman The
Hon Mrs Selina Chow, JP, told the media gathering that the HKTA had been
suggesting that Government select internally a suitable officer to fill
the post. This, she said, was in view of the requirements that the
Commissioner for Tourism be familiar with government structure as he or
she would be co-ordinating the work of various government departments as
well as overseeing various tourism infrastructural projects and the
improvement of tourism facilities.
Mrs Chow added: “Mrs Lai is an outstanding administrative officer very
familiar with the structure of the government. We believe she is a
suitable candidate to fill the post of Commissioner for Tourism. We
greatly support the appointment and we eagerly look forward to
co-operating with Mrs Lai in promoting Hong Kong’s tourism industry.”
