More intensive
deployment of KLM’s Boeing 747 Combi aircraft fleet will substantially
add to KLM Cargo’s intercontinental air freighting capacity this coming
winter season, beginning Sunday, October 29, 2000.
The number of 747 Combi flights operated weekly will rise from the
current 90 to 99. The winter schedule is valid through Saturday, March
31, 2001.
In addition, KLM Cargo will expand the Boeing 747 Special Freighter
services between Amsterdam and Osaka from two to three flights weekly.
This additional service represents the latest step in the growing
cooperation with Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA). KLM’s Amsterdam hub is
NCA’s major European point of entry, and the two cargo carriers have
operated joint air freighting services to and from Japan since 1988,
making this one of the world’s longest standing and fruitful air cargo
alliances. With the added Osaka flight, the two airlines will operate
total eleven full freighter flights weekly between Japan and the
Netherlands, providing European customers with a wide choice of
destinations in Japan and high-frequency service.
KLM Cargo will serve Seoul with Boeing 747 Combi equipment this winter,
replacing the current Special Freighter service.
The number of flights operated with Boeing 747 Combi equipment on major
intercontinental routes will rise substantially. On the New York route,
KLM will increase the frequency of its Combi flights from seven to 13
weekly. Daily Combi service will be introduced on the routes between
Amsterdam and Mexico City (currently five flights weekly), Hong Kong
(currently six flights weekly), Kuala Lumpur (currently four flights
weekly). Sao Paulo will be served by an extra Combi flight, raising
frequency from three to four weekly.
Combi flights on the Amsterdam - Singapore - Sydney route will be
reduced from two to one flights weekly. The current three full freighter
flights weekly on the Amsterdam - Singapore - Penang route and the daily
Combi flight serving Singapore and Jakarta will be maintained in the
winter season.
KLM is the world’s largest operator of Combi aircraft, fully geared
towards cargo customers’ needs with a highly flexible service, offering
main deck capacity on a greater choice of routes with greater frequency
of service than most other carriers operating full freighters in
combination with all-passenger aircraft. |
