BASS HOTELS & RESORTS AND WWF TEAM UP TO CONSERVE ASIA'S ENDANGERED WILDLIFE

Travel News Asia Date: 1 July 2000

Bass Hotels & Resorts (BHR), owner of the Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands, and WWF - World Wide Fund For Nature today announced the launch of a joint initiative to help conserve Asia's endangered wildlife. From today, Bass Hotels & Resorts will be carrying out the region-wide "Sleep Well, You Just Saved A Life" fundraising and awareness campaign at 33 participating Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels and resorts in 10 Asia Pacific countries*.

During the five-month campaign from July to November, guests staying at any of the 33 participating hotels and resorts will receive information about the campaign (in the form of posters and tentcards) during their stay. The equivalent in local currency of US$1 will be added to the guest's bill for the entire stay. When the guest checks-out, they will be asked if they wish to donate to this worthy cause and if agreed by the guest, the US$1 donation will remain on the guest's bill, otherwise it will be removed. All proceeds will go to the funding of WWF's on-going wildlife conservation work in the Asia Pacific region.

Richard Hartman, Managing Director - Asia Pacific of Bass Hotels & Resorts said, " Bass Hotels & Resorts is a founding member of the Asia Pacific Hotels Environment Initiative (APHEI) and as a leader in conservation, we are committed to protecting our natural environment while maintaining high standards of customer service. We are glad to have chosen WWF to be part of this journey."

Commenting on the partnership between the two organizations, Dr Isabelle Louis, WWF International's Asia Pacific Programme Director said, "We are encouraged by Bass Hotels & Resorts' foresight and concern in creating this innovative and powerful fundraising campaign to conserve the region's endangered wildlife." She adds, "We hope that this partnership between WWF and Bass Hotels & Resorts will be a model for other corporations that are also concerned about conservation."
