Discovery
Channel’s Animal Planet film crew spent the first half of November in
Bali and Eastern Indonesia filming wildlife for a one-hour segment to
appear on the channel’s “Jeff Corwin Experience” program in 2001.
Tentative airdate is March 18, 2001.
From Bali, the six-man US-based film team flew to Sumbawa to board a
traditional pinisi schooner to sail through Komodo National Park,
stopping to film the indigenous Komodo dragon monitor lizards, fruit
bats and other wildlife on Komodo, Rinca and surrounding islands. They
also conducted several day and night dives to showcase the rich
underwater marine life.
Returning to Bali, the focus was reptiles.
Cooperating in the film production were: the Indonesian Consulate in Los
Angeles, US. Consular Agency Bali, Indonesian Foreign Ministry and
Environment Ministry, Forestry and Parks Department, Komodo National
Park, West Bali National Park, The Nature Conservancy Indonesia, World
Wide Fund for Nature Indonesia Program Bali Office, Bali Department of
Information, Bali Governor’s Office, Ngurah Rai International Airport
customs and immigrations officials Bali Reptile Park.
Bali-based Travel Works Communications International facilitated filming
permits and press credentials throughout the shoot. The segment is
produced by Popular Arts Entertainment of Los Angeles, California.
