Hong Kong
Tourist Association (HKTA) Chairman Mrs Selina Chow, JP, has been
recognised by a leading United States travel industry magazine for her
work in repositioning Hong Kong as a top tourist destination.
Mrs Chow — who was appointed HKTA Chairman on 1 April this year — was
voted one of “the most powerful women” in the travel industry in the 31
August 2000 issue of Travel Agent magazine, a United States national
weekly publication (circulation: 51,500) for travel agents and industry
personnel.
Entering the travel industry wielding substantial power with an
impressive record in public service, Mrs Chow has held a number of
official posts since becoming a member of the Urban Council in 1980 and
has been a member of the Legislative Council since 1981. Noted for
leading an organisation considered among the very best and brightest
tourism boards around the world, Mrs Chow has already set her priorities
in order to maintain and strengthen the HKTA’s marketing mastery over
growing regional and global competition.
The HKTA Chairman said that she was very honoured to receive the title,
particularly in The Americas where the industry is at its most
competitive. “I am gratified to learn that the HKTA as an organisation
is well respected by the travel trade in this market,” she said.
The Americas, a key long-haul regional market, registered 729,063
arrivals for the period January to July 2000, up 12% on 1999 for the
same period. |
