The Thai
Pavilion at EXPO 2000 in Hannover Germany is one of the most popular
country Pavilions with 527,000 visitors passing through the Thai
Pavilion gates during June, the first month of the five month EXPO
period, an average of 17,566 people per day.
Over 100 countries are participating in EXPO 2000 with most Pavilions
reporting an average daily count of between 6,000 – 15,000. While an
average of 150,000 people visit EXPO each day.
“We are very pleased that our German and European friends are visiting
our Pavilion at EXPO,” said Mrs. Juthamas Siriwan, Deputy Governor for
Administration of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. As a token of our
appreciation, we are going to expand our cultural and arts program at
EXPO beginning in August, so that our friends can experience more of
what our Kingdom has to offer.”
Beginning after August 12, which is Thai National Day at EXPO 2000,
classical Thai dance, puppet shows, Thai massage and Thai food
demonstrations will take place. The Pavilion has already begun serving
Thai food which is a culinary favorite in Germany.
The Thai Pavilion theme “From Biodiversity Comes Food For The World”,
displays the convergence of ancient Thai society with new technological
advancements. The Pavilion features exhibits on Buddhism, the backbone
of Thai social and cultural development, as well as on its strength as
an agricultural leader in Asia. A special exhibit, focusing on the Doi
Tung Development Project, the life’s work of Her Royal Highness the
Princess Mother, the late mother of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej,
is also featured. Recognized by UNESCO as a major personality of the
20th century, the Thai people, this year, are celebrating the 100th
anniversary of the Princess Mother’s birth.
The Thai Pavilion is near the West Gate of EXPO 2000 next to the
Japanese and Singaporean pavilions. |
